In the movie True Grit, the old, one-eye sheriff, Rooster Cogburn, played by John Wayne was said to have “grit.”
This word grit described someone who had numerous qualities all working together such as:
• Strength of character
• Strength of will
My sense is resilience is having the ability to recover from adversity without losing one’s self direction or increasing one’s stress is potentially the R in “GRIT.”
For those coaching executive leaders or seeking new leaders, identifying this internal and sometimes hidden talent is essential.
