One of the great debates in coaching is about the balance between the logical, cognitive aspects and the more intuitive, go-with-the-flow parts of the process.
Adding “Coaching for the Zone” into this mix highlights a number of key points which are discussed in this article.
What is the Zone ?
There are many descriptions of the Zone as it can mean different things to different people. However it can be described as “a mental performance state where you don’t have to think about what you are doing.” It is characterised by total absorption in an activity where skills execute totally naturally. Words used to describe the Zone include – effortless ease, it just felt right, automatic pilot, going with the flow.
